Trick Dogs in Spokane

As I watched the beautiful Mini American Shepherd balance on his hindquarters, I admired his focused and adoring gaze on his handler/mom. Rad enjoyed working for her, wanting to please his favorite being in all the world. And she loved working with him just as much.

That connection is my passion in dog sports and dog training.

I have been training my dogs in obedience competition, Rally, herding, flyball, and conformation for 18 years now. And, trained hundreds of other dogs in the process. I would say that it is my most rewarding work.

Trick Dog titles are a new, fun way to work with your dog and earn an AKC title in the process. Most people teach their dogs some little tricks like a “high five” or “roll over”. Why not carry it further? Why not add 10 new tricks!

For all of the rules, you will want to check out AKC’s website to get the low down. Essentially, there are 5 levels of trick dog titles beginning at Novice and ending at Elite. Each title comes with a list of tricks that you can choose to perform. You will need 10 tricks per level. If your dog has their CGC, you only need to perform 5 tricks for the novice title. Each trick needs to be performed twice.

A certified CGC Evaluator will either watch your tricks in person, or, (due to covid) can watch a video of your dog’s tricks being performed. If your dog passes, the Evaluator will give you signed paperwork to turn into AKC for a title ($25 fee to AKC for your first title).

Here, you can find an example of my video with Brigs last year where he earned his TKN (Trick Dog Novice) title.

As for finding an Evaluator to test under, look no further! I am a certified Evaluator and have been testing dogs for CGC, S.T.A.R. Puppy, and Trick Dog titles for years now. I would be more than happy to assist! You can also email me if you just have questions. I love to help. I can give you some resources for teaching your dog to perform tricks (YouTube is chalk full of tips these days). And, set up a time to evaluate your dog.

Now, go out there and teach some tricks!
